RIGGED, by Veronique Rousseau. Decoupage on canvas (10×10)

This week we feature Rigged, by Veronique Rousseau (decoupage on canvas). Her work featured in the Department of Illumination’s 10 x 10 Art Show and fundraiser. 120 artworks in a variety of media — some feature wineglasses — are on display and some are still for sale — though many were snapped up at the event launch last Friday night. On display at Maison Depoivre until August 26.

The completed site will see four apartment buildings fronting on Picton Main Street

The West Meadows development by Port Picton Homes is adding two five-storey apartment buildings. A two-acre site adjacent to the new Bank of Montreal in the Foodland Plaza will soon see two 78-unit buildings with 156 rentals. Nearby are Starbucks, Dollarama, and some fast food eateries. Builder David Cleave is determined to keep the rents affordable.

Loyalist residences in Belleville

Loyalist College wants to establish a greater presence in Prince Edward County. Plans are in the works for a new student residence in Picton, and the President did not deny the rumours: a satellite campus could be coming.

Along the edges of what is now the County’s trademark industry, represented by 50-some wineries, are 10 craft breweries, each with its own approach to a trade that is constantly in motion

Chris Fanning considers the arrival of the Horseless Carriage

The Picton Gazette in August 1903, reports: “Mr. C. R. Dench, of Erie, Pennsylvania, accompanied by his wife and family, are touring Canada in an automobile” — the car was clearly new. The report reminds of current newspaper disptaches on the hazards of travelling Ontario by EV.

A visual cornucopia, and yes, totally corny. But worth it for the beer.
