The County Conservancy has obtained a legal opinion on what Council has called a “legally binding” agreement with Picton Terminals, one on which any vote can only be a matter of form, to ratify a done deal. The six-page letter from Goodmans LLP of Toronto states, “there can be no valid or binding agreement between Council and Picton Terminals.”

An Abbeyfield House in Ottawa

Savvy Solo Seniors is investigating the possibility of creating what is called an Abbeyfield House in the County. Such houses promote a unique form of shared housing for seniors. They are non-profit, registered charities owned and supported by community members. 

Chris Fanning considers the intersection of “shop local” with “all welcome here.”

It seems obvious. Of course we should shop local. But is it really that simple? Is paying an extra few quarters for an ear of corn really going to float the local economy? Only if we invite others to come here, too.

A visual cornucopia, and yes, totally corny. But worth it for the hosts.

Base31’s Rock the County Music Festival did exactly what it set out to do.

Biglake’s Beethoven Sonata Marathon — all the violin sonatas played across one glorious day with incomparable artistry — surprised and delighted. As Director Johannes Debus said of the performers, “they don't just recite Beethoven, they play it from within their heart, their soul, and their whole body.” The Biglake Festival continues this weekend.

Tonight: ANDARA Gallery presents an opening reception for its latest exhibition and sale of new works by Canadian Fine Art Photographer and Digital Artist, Tara Wilkinson, called BARNSCAPES. 7-9pm Thursday 29 August.

The Huron Harp School offers an outdoor Harp Concert at Macaulay Heritage Park Saturday 31 August at 2pm. Hear the heavenly sounds of 16 harps in concert, playing celtic, folk, and popular music! The harpists come from various parts of Ontario, and beyond, for a relaxing retreat on the beautiful shores of Prince Edward County. After a week of classes, they are delighted to perform an outdoor concert for the community on the Stone Room Stage.

Biglake Arts Festival Evolution continues tonight through to Saturday. The final event, the Opera Gala, is at Waring House Saturday 31 August at 7pm.
