The County’s Integrity Commissioner, Robert Swayze, reported the results of his investigation into alleged breaches of conduct by one or more councillors on September 10. The Commissioner, who has served the County since 2016, found no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of councillors, but that did not stop him from censuring their conduct.
In 2007, Joan Didion transformed her memoir The Year of Magical Thinking into a one-woman play, which debuted with actor Vanessa Redgrave. Joan McBride’s version opens tonight at Mount Tabor.

The inaugural County Adaptation Film Festival begins at The Regent on Friday with a gala screening of Widow Cliquot and a writerly conversation hosted by CBC’s Eleanor Wachtel. A giant party afterwards in Armoury Square is open to all.

The Gazette is pleased to present a series of films and books that explore the newspaper life. The series starts Monday evening 21 October at The Pilot’s Lounge at Base31 with a screening of Steven Spielberg’s The Post, about the Washington Post decision to publish the Pentagon Papers. The film is based on Post publisher Katharine Graham’s memoir, Personal History, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998. Catered discussions of the book and the film are Wednesday evenings at the Gazette office. Please join us! We are always looking for new members. No experience required.

The Weekend Ticket
Well, it’s been busy all summer in the County — but I think this weekend takes the cake. I mean the cheese. No, the CAFF! And threaded through it all, a marathon! And a play!
- presents The Year of Magical Thinking at Mount Tabor. Opens tonight and runs this weekend and through the week. Not to be missed.
Runners will be on multiple courses for the 21st annual Prince Edward County Marathon. Volunteers needed, check out the web page. Watch out for the road closures on Sunday the 29th as you make your way to the Regent for CAFF — and to the Karlo Estates festival lounge for a drink.
On Saturday 28 September, the Ontario Cheese Festival runs 10am-5pm at the CAPE. Cheese and wine, cheese and beer, cheese and spirits — samples and flights are on offer from vendors across the County, and the province.
This is the last weekend of Maison de Poivre’s current show, Eleanor Cope: From the Eye to the Heart. It culminates with a visit by the artist all the way from Ireland, and in the company of very special guest artists: Gilles Miramontes, Graham Metson, Hew Elcock and Ron Eady. Don’t miss a very special afternoon with amazing artworks on display.
