Picton Gazette Express Vol. 1 No. 35

Concerned residents protested with signs and blowhorns at Shire Hall last week to oppose the County’s planned Ministerial Zoning Order (MZO) application for Picton Terminals. Councillors were making their way inside the Hall to a Planning and Development committee meeting.

Fraud Alert: The Lottery Winner

Staff Sergeant John Hatch warned in a deputation to Council earlier this month that fraud was seeing the fastest increase in serious cases — especially of seniors. This week we feature a story about an 80-year-old Picton resident who was told she had won the lottery — there was just a small administrative fee to get through first.

Prince Edward County Library staff now are now unionized. But don’t worry — there are no plans to strike.

Nine landmarks featured, including Picton Main Street’s 1880 Gillespie House, a midcentury modern masterpiece on Maitland, an 1850 farmhouse at Wild Lot Farm Distillery, the Friendship United Church in Demorestville, and The Marsh House, a picturesque early 1800s white house at the heart of Consecon.

Although striking Canada Post employees have been ordered back to work, we are still delivering the Gazette ourselves. If you have a rural mailbox, your Gazette will be delivered by a contracted delivery team. If you live in town, get your Gazette at any of a large number of new boxes out on the streets, including outside every post office.

Editorial: In Gratitude
