Picton Gazette Express: Vol. 2 No. 12

Launch of The Andrew as “A Space for Every Story”

In a dramatic Council meeting last week, residents for and against the re-development of the former elementary school, located in one of Picton’s most beautiful and central neighbourhoods, spoke eloquently about what was at stake. In a marked shift, residents in favour of development because of the opportunities it offers carried the day.

The Gazette kicks off its Federal Election 2025 coverage with an interview with the new NDP candidate, Kate Crothers.

A timely intervention in politics and Canada-US relations, local author Thomas Harrison’s new book is both a memoir and work of political and County history. Deploying an intriguing and effective mix of genres, it examines the intersection between personal and public history. You can read it here.

Books on Film: Insiders and Outsiders

Screening at The Regent on Monday evening April 7, a 1948 collaboration between Graham Greene and director Carol Reed turned out a masterpiece, The Third Man. Shot on location in Vienna and is both darkly funny and utterly entrancing.

Tom Cotten stars as Holly Martins, who is always in the dark.

We are very pleased to present a satire of Russell Walker, the latest County salvo in the trade and culture wars with the United States. He wrote the lyrics and music for “Horror Show: Elon and the Dictator,” a video shot by the Gemini-award winning documentarian Michele Hozer, also his partner. Made in Canada — right here in the County! Listen here.

Russell Walker sports and throws the shade.

Editorial: In Real Life
